Farmhouse Lard – 300g Jar

“Add 100 g of lard…”

You’ve probably read this line in an old family recipe or a cookbook... then closed the book thinking:

“Yes... but where am I supposed to find it?”

Good news: you’re in the right place.

Lard is a traditional ingredient in French cooking. Once an essential staple, it has gradually disappeared from shop shelves, even though it remains indispensable for getting many recipes right, just as they were traditionally made.

GAEC Montchervet, in Amplepuis (Beaujolais Vert), continues this tradition by offering pure lard, simply made from pork fat, with no unnecessary ingredients.

Why cook with lard?

Lard brings an incomparable texture and flavour to many dishes:

  • sautéed or Sarladaise potatoes;
  • homemade pâtés and terrines;
  • pies and pâtés en croûte;
  • traditional fried dishes;
  • regional recipes passed down from generation to generation.

It is often the forgotten ingredient or replaced simply because it is not readily available, but it makes all the difference.

A product that has become rare

Today, butter or oil often replace lard... not by choice, but because it has become difficult to find.

At L’Épicerie Beaujolaise, we have chosen to continue offering these local products that allow you to cook traditional recipes from the past without compromise.
